The Tripoli Detachment was formed starting in January 1993, and received its Charter in May 1993. Meetings are held the second and forth Thursday of each month at 1830 hours (6:30pm). Membership is open to all Marines and at present, our membership total is around 75 members. We have members as far away as Alaska, California, North and South Carolina.
The Detachment has a Color Guard that marches in a few of the parades in Grant County and has been invited to present Colors at some of the area Veterans Programs. Some of the activities that we take part in are helping with the Special Olympics, taking wheelchair patients to church at the Marion V. A. Hospital, and helping to put flags on the graves of Veterans.
The Detachment is also ready to assist any Marine or Marine family in the area. We have our own "Military Order of Devil Dogs," Pound #260. In 1999, the Tripoli Detachment established a "Scrooge Fund" which was used to purchase and donate needed items to the Hands of Hope Women's Shelter and the First Place Children's shelter in Marion for Christmas. During the year, we try to have some fun get togethers such as cookouts, Saturday morning breakfast, carry-in dinners and a pool party. Any Marines interested in becoming a member of the Tripoli Detachment or wanting more information about the Marine Corps League, contact anyone of the Detachment Officers. Also if you want, fill out the membership card on this web site and send it to the above address.
